Gareth Barns, MEarthSc, PhD, FGS, CSci, ASoBRA

Gareth is a contaminated land professional with more than 10 years of experience in contaminated land site investigation, risk assessment and remediation in the UK.

Gareth is a Chartered Scientist with the Geological Society and has obtained accredited risk assessor status for Human Health and Controlled Waters risk assessments with the Society of Brownfield Risk Assessment. Gareth has significant experience in designing and leading contaminated land ground investigations and in undertaking generic and detailed risk assessment. He also has experience of remediation design, hydrogeological modelling and cost benefit analysis. Gareth's work has encompassed a range of sites and contaminants including gas works, chlorinated solvent contamination, large scale transport, landfill and Galligu remediation projects. He has project management responsibilities for a wide range of coal tar remediation support, landfill and power station environmental permitting, ground investigation and environmental due diligence projects.

Gareth is a member of the Geosyntec internal Sustainability Advisory Committee, an exposure modeler on the Phase 2 Category 4 Screening Level Project lead by SoBRA and has also been a guest lecturer for IStructE.
